This July, inspired by the thought-provoking Netflix documentary Social Dilemma we are kicking off with a much-needed discussion on the challenges associated with the virtual world, the detrimental effects this can have on our own behavior & psychology and that of our younger generation coming off the back increased tech usage for homeschooling while multi-tasking with “weapons of mass distraction” such as gaming, & social media platforms.⁣

Our expert speakers including our IFM Practitioner Miles Price will share tools to create awareness & develop strategies to better navigate an uncensored, behavioral modifying, anxiety increasing amplification system (known as the internet) that is, on one hand, a powerful tool for infinite knowledge & connection, and on the other, a system to manipulate consumers, polarize opinions & develop addictions.⁣

The Social Dilemma

With such an important topic we have put together a panel including –⁣

  • A Psychologist to discuss the psychology of the topic above⁣
  • A Clinical Nutritionist/Functional Medicine Practitioner to share valuable information on nutrition and its role in a developing adolescent brain & the nutrients/foods that assist with focus and a stable mood.⁣
  • A Movement expert and his experience and strategies on how play can change the brain and reconnect the body to health and better posture/movement outcomes⁣

Tuesday evening July 27th, doors open at 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm start. Price is $250/person and includes ample healthy snacks, drinks (physically healthy and also the emotionally healthy kind;)) and great discounts from all collaborating companies and one lucky draw prize giveaway!⁣

NAD+ Therapy 101 https://lifeclinic.com.hk/nad-therapy-101/ Fri, 15 May 2020 09:55:38 +0000 http://lifeclinic.com.hk/cytokine-therapy-101-2/

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+): a critical coenzyme found in every cell in your body and involved in hundreds of metabolic processes.

What is NAD+?

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a naturally occurring coenzyme found in virtually every cell. Its function is to help catalyse reactions in the body and is heavily involved in cell regeneration, DNA repair, cell metabolism and the production of cellular energy. Unfortunately, this invaluable compound rapidly declines with age1.

How does NAD+ Therapy help?

Emerging evidence suggests that higher NAD+ levels may slow or even reverse aspects of aging and age-related diseases, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative conditions2. This is because as NAD+ levels drop, the pathways that NAD+ operate become compromised leading to accelerated aging and a greater risk for developing a range of diseases. Numerous clinical trials have been published on NAD+ Therapy and it is typically very well-tolerated5. Side effects are rare and usually mild, such as flushing.

NAD+ Mechanisms:

  1. May contribute to longer telomeres for anti-aging
  2. Promotes DNA repair
  3. Modulates immune-cell signaling
  4. Improves mental clarity, focus and concentration
  5. Boosts mood
  6. Mitigates chemical stress inflammation
  7. Activates sirtuins3
  8. Supports energy production4

What People are Saying?

“Fountain of youth molecule” – Dr. David Sinclair, Ph.D, Professor in Department of Genetics, Harvard Medical School

“Potentially one of the greatest advances in medical science since the invention of penicillin.”- Dr. Phillip Milgram, Scripps Memorial Hospital

“The next big anti-aging drug” – Dr. Ross Grant, Australasian Research Institute

Mental health disorders such as Anxiety and Depression can significantly impact your quality of life. While the conventional medicine approach focuses mainly on balancing neurotransmitters in the brain, a functional medicine approach looks in an integrative way and wants to find out the sources of imbalance and then treat the underlying cause.

When we think about mental health through a functional medicine perspective, we want to consider what are the underlying causes that have led to the psychological distress in the first place. Therefore, we will start with a full case history, understanding physical, psycho-social and mental stressors.  Additionally, a full blood panel will be ordered and laboratory specimens to understand potential imbalances and deficiencies.

Areas that are covered during the history taking:

  1. Patient’s Background Information
  2. Why is the patient looking for treatment? What are the primary factors motivating the patient to come for treatment? What aspects of the patient’s life circumstances, significant events, symptoms/disorders, or problematic emotions/behaviours are contributing to his/her problems (e.g., health problems, relationship issues, angry outbursts, anorexia, substance abuse, work difficulties, stage of life)?
  3. Assessment of the current level of functioning in the following areas: Occupational/School performance, Intimate Relationships, Family Relationships, Friends and Alone time.
  4. Major Life Problems/Symptoms: potential trauma
  5. Childhood & Adolescent Origins of Current Problems: Core unmet needs biological, genetic and cultural influences

Functional medicine is unique in that it asks the patient to take an active part in their healing. The therapy approach called “Schema Therapy” is exactly constituted to understand the underlying/root core issues and at the same time understand current maladaptive coping modes that contribute to depression and anxiety disorders.
