COVID-19 Neutralising Antibody Testing\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

At LifeClinic, we now offer the SARS-CoV-2 Neutralising Test (a.k.a Surrogate Virus Neutralization Antibody Detection) which evaluates the Covid-19 vaccine efficacy.<\/p>\n

This is a highly specific test that detects antibodies, which block the interaction between Spike-RBD domain of the virus and the ACE2 receptor on the human cell. Blocking that interaction can prevent the virus from entering and infecting the cells.<\/p>\n

We recommend taking this test 2 weeks after your second dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

FAQ’s<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Hong Kong government has begun to roll out the vaccination program. The following FAQ attempts to address some of the most common questions around COVID-19 vaccination.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1. Which vaccine is available at LifeClinic?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

CoronaVac, also known as the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, will be available from our clinic\u00a0from 15 March 2021.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The CoronaVac vaccine\u00a0is an\u00a0inactivated virus<\/a>\u00a0COVID-19 vaccine<\/a>\u00a0developed by\u00a0Sinovac Biotech<\/a>.\u00a0 It uses well-established technology traditionally used for vaccines such as for influenza, polio, hepatitis and rabies, and has been in Phase III clinical trials in Brazil[1]<\/sup><\/a>,Chile[2]<\/sup><\/a>,[4] Indonesia[3]<\/sup><\/a>,[5] the Philippines[4]<\/sup><\/a>,[6] and Turkey[5]<\/sup><\/a>.[7]<\/p>\n

Brazil announced results on 13 January 2021 showing\u00a050.4%<\/strong>\u00a0effectiveness at preventing symptomatic infections,\u00a078%<\/strong>\u00a0effectiveness in preventing mild cases needing treatment, and\u00a0100%<\/strong>\u00a0effectiveness in preventing severe cases.<\/a>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0Final Phase III results from Turkey announced on 3 March 2021 showed an efficacy of\u00a083.5%<\/strong>[7]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Interim results in Indonesia were announced on 11 January 2021 with an efficacy of\u00a065.3%.<\/strong>[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

2. Am I suitable?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

You may be eligible for the CoronaVac vaccine if you are\u00a0over 18 years<\/strong>\u00a0of age with\u00a0no major chronic illnesses, allergies or contraindications.\u00a0<\/strong>Although there is limited phase III data available on the effectiveness of this vaccine on those over 60 (because of small sample size), phase I and II trials showed that the vaccine is safe in this age group and is able to stimulate the immune system. Generally, because over 60\u2019s is considered a vulnerable group, the risk of vaccination is considered much less than the likely benefit.<\/p>\n

3. Who is not suitable?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

If you have any\u00a0severe chronic illness<\/strong>,\u00a0neurological conditions<\/strong>\u00a0(like Guillan-Barre syndrome, transverse myelitis or multiple sclerosis) or are\u00a0pregnant or breast feeding<\/strong>, you are not suitable for the CoronaVac.Conditions like diabetes, epilepsy and cancer may also not be suitable, but please discuss this with our doctor.<\/p>\n

4. How is it given?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Two injections are given, usually in the arm, 28 days apart.<\/p>\n

5. Are there any side-effects?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Most people will have minimal or no side effects, but some may experience\u00a0aching and redness<\/strong>\u00a0in the injection site,\u00a0flu-like symptoms<\/strong>\u00a0(like joint pains, muscle aches, headaches, sore throat or chills),\u00a0abdominal symptoms<\/strong>\u00a0(like nausea, diarrhoea or abdominal pains) or\u00a0swelling\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0itchiness<\/strong>. Rarer side-effects have been reported, but as of 3 Feb 2021, there has been no serious adverse events.<\/p>\n

6. What\u2019s the Cost?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

We are happy to announce we are able to offer the Covid-19 vaccine\u00a0free-of-charge<\/strong> for our LifeClinic patients.If you have a friend or relative you would also like to be vaccinated, we can put them on our waiting list for when the next batch of vaccines arrive.
